Language Games

Language was a huge part of this course, especially during the last few weeks. No matter what culture you are a part of, language rules every way in which you communicate, whether it be through body language, social media language conventions, social (in person) language conventions, or any other form of communication. The way in which we communicate with each other says a lot about how we grew up and what we expect from others when communicating with them as well. It was said many times in the course that using language is like making a move in a game. We always have a motive for using certain words and using a certain intonation or context when using those words. Through social media, it is difficult to see the meaning of the words that were shared because there is often no emotion or context attached to them. As the image posted below by Prof. Levy, the words are the same but when they are attached to a certain font, it changes the intention completely.
